The Training Division is headed by Sergeant Mike Ramsey. There are twelve part time instructors assigned to other divisions. The training division is responsible for all continuing training for the Sheriff's Office. Georgia law states that all law enforcement officers must have a minimum of twenty hours of training a year. Walker County Sheriff Office officers average fifty to one hundred hours per year of in house training. Walker County officers average another one hundred hours of specialized school training outside the department per year. The Training Division has six firearms instructors, three defensive tactics instructors, one hazardous material instructor. There are also six instructors that hold multiple specialized certificates to teach and seven general instructors to teach all other classes.
